'The actor who only recently dazzled as a corrupt bureaucrat in Shanghai plays a sweet, friendly man fighting inner demons lending nuances to deceptively simple lines and turning them into profound statements.
Deepti Naval compliments Shaikh’s light disposition and serenity with a measured delivery that highlights her poise and accessibility.
As the troubled and antsy Amaya, Swara Bhaskar reminiscent of a young Kajol. Her meltdown from denial to approval is so heartfelt; it’s hard to grudge her earlier protests.'

'Both Farooque and Deepti confer a layer of profound sensitivity to this little-big film about a woman's right to find companionship with or without her darling daughter's approval. The film's main dramatic tension converges on the daughter's character.'

'Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval exude that rare charm which is hard to find in any romance depicted on screen of late. Their expressions, timing and reasoning, punctuated with deft silences are what excellent performances are all about.'

'It is easy to slip into Amaya's world. It is also easy to embrace old screen flames Farooque and Deepti ( in one priceless moment he refers to her as Miss Chamko, referencing her immortal role in Chashme Baddoor' the immortal Delhi film).'

The magical Farooq-Deepti jodi is back -

'After having seen endless love stories on youth, watching a mature love story like Listen Amaya is like a breath of fresh air. And if the movie marks the return of the unforgettable Farooq Sheikh-Deepti Naval pair after over two decades, then one can be sure about the fact that the movie will have some power packed scenes and performances.
The romance that Deepti Naval and Farooq Sheikh depict on screen even today is very rare to find in recent films. Their expression, timings and chemistry are unbeatable. While Swara Bhaskar is the perfect choice for the role of Amaya, her role is so convincing in the movie that when she acts as an immature, mean and grumpy daughter you actually feel like slapping her.

'It's the return of the unforgettable Farooq Sheikh-Deepti jodi after over two decades. And what indulges you more than the coffee, is their nostalgic chemistry, timeless warmth, and engaging conversations - all freshly ground. With superb actors as such, emotions run high, expressions are many and dialogues just enough to give that cinnamon flavouring to cappuccino conversations. Swara Bhaskar naturally adds her flavour to this role, serving a good performance.'

Farooq-Deepti nostalgia not enough magic for Listen… Amaya -

'The main draw of Listen… Amaya is the fact that it brings back together two actors who’ve given us some of the tenderest, most identifiable romantic couplings in the history of Hindi filmdom: Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval. In a cinematic universe so dominated by grand gesture and loving excess, it seems almost wondrous that they managed to carve out a space for the middle class romantic encounter, transforming the everyday into quiet on-screen magic.'

Listen... Amaya has it all to make for a relative contemporary story on human relations but sadly it disappoints due to its amateurish treatment. -

'Avinash Kumar Singh scores an ace at least in one department - casting. There couldn't have been a better onscreen pair than Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval to portray a beautiful relationship. The way the two express their emotions and portray their characters is simply brilliant. '

'The dialogue is made fresh by some wonderful performances by the lead characters. Deepti Naval and Swara Bhaskar are so comfortable and make you so comfortable about them that you forget you are watching a movie for a bit. You are completely involved in their interactions, so invested in their relationship for most parts of the film. Farouque Shaikh brings with him peace and stability as his character Jayant goes in and out of frames. You really begin to care for the aging Jayant, and his failing health. '
